Four SA sailors rescued from sinking boat off Mozambique

Four South African sailors will be arriving at the Port of Moroni in the Comoros today after being rescued from their sinking yacht off the coast of Mozambique.

They got into difficulty yesterday while sailing up the Mozambique channel.

Chief at the Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Cape Town, Jared Blows says they received a distress call from the yacht and help was sent.

"The vessel arrived about an hour and 40 to 50 minutes later. All four crew members were safely retrieved from the yacht. We are not sure about what caused the sinking as yet. 

"All we know is that the vessel starting taking in water and began sinking. The master of the vessel that rescued them reported that they are all in good health and there are no injuries," he says.

Blows says they will soon make their way back home.

"They will be disembarked and via diplomatic channels, repatriated to South Africa," he says.
