Son saves father's life after boat capsizes

A 20-year-old man had to swim about 600 metres to shore in a bid to save his father's life after the boat they were on capsized near Richards Bay yesterday.
The National Sea Rescue Institute's Craig Lambinon says after swimming to shore, the man hiked to get help.
"We then hiked before finding a person with a cellphone to raise the alarm and he had last seen his dad hanging onto the hull of the capsized boat. NSRI Richards Bay launched three sea rescue crafts following reports that a five metre boat, the jolly rubino, had capsized offshore," he said.
Lambinon says they found the older man still in the boat while neither of the men were hurt.
In a separate incident near Wilson's Wharf in the Durban harbour, another boat capsized. Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says no one was injured in the incident.
"The boat had overturned and was towed to safety. Two occupants were on the boat but had sustained no injuries. Rescue Care paramedics assessed them and gave them a clean bill of health," he said.
