It is believed they had been returning home from a church service.

IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says they were called to the scene, just past the Tongaat off-ramp.

"There were 13 injured people on scene. Unfortunately three of the 13 have passed away, one being a 4-month-old baby. Three people are critical, the rest sustained moderate injuries," said Herbst.

"One of the patient's legs were entrapped beneath the taxi after it rolled. They required the assistance of the Tongaat fire department to cut them free."
