Four injured, property damaged in Umvoti Toll protest

KZN police say they are investigating a case of malicious damage to property following this morning's protest at the Umvoti Toll Plaza in KwaDukuza.

Police spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says four people were injured and toll offices damaged after rocks were thrown during the unrest.
"There were four people assaulted by the angry protesters and they were taken to hospital for treatment. At this stage, there's no case opened by the people that were assaulted. We also heard that protesters allegedly damaged property belonging to the Toll Plaza. A case of malicious damage to property will be opened. We hope that arrests will be made soon," Zwane said.
Toll plaza workers employed by Intertoll are demanding for a salary increase.

They want a monthly minimum wage of R7 000 for collectors, administrators and cleaners.
Trade union, SATAWU's Zanele Sabela says they are working closely with police.
