Former MEC embroiled in R28m money laundering to stand trial in September

Former KZN Economic Development MEC, Mike Mabuyakhulu and his co-accused will go on trial in September.
They’re accused of fraud and money laundering relating to R28 million that the provincial government paid to service providers for the staging of the 2012 North Sea Jazz Festival.
The event never took place.
All the accused weren’t in court today but their attorneys were present.
The court heard the State would be ready to go to trial – which has been set down for a month from the 6th of September.

It will take place in Court 12 in the Durban Magistrate’s Court. The State says this is because it’s larger.
Bail for all accused has been extended.
Last year, Mabuyakhulu was reinstated to his position as ANC deputy provincial chairperson after being cleared by the party’s Integrity Commission.
