A 23-year-old former Durban University of Technology student has begun serving a 15-year sentence for murder.

Melusi Khoza was sentenced by the Durban Regional Court this week.
The National Prosecuting Authority says Khoza stabbed fellow student Sifundo Thabiso Mhlongo to death following an altercation at a student residence in 2021.
Spokesperson for the NPA in KZN, Natasha Kara, says both men were students at DUT at the time of the incident.

"Since Khoza was charged with a murder that was not planned or premeditated, the court found no compelling or substantial circumstances which justified a deviation from the minimum sentence of 15 years imprisonment. He was, therefore, sentenced accordingly.
“The National Prosecuting Authority welcomes the successful finalisation of this matter and acknowledges the hard work and dedication of the prosecution and the Investigating team."
