Three convicted killers have started serving lengthy sentences for the murder of a northern KwaZulu-Natal couple.

Mfaniseni Gumede and his wife Joyce were shot and killed in their home in Mtubatuba three years ago.
Police say the three assailants ransacked the house and removed a safe which had two guns.

The suspects were arrested in different locations in KZN and Gauteng.
Philani Mthethwa, Velenkosini Gumede and Shabalakhe Mzobe were handed two life terms each last Friday in the Mtubatuba High Court.
"The trio was also condemned to an additional six years behind bars for a guilty verdict on a charge of stealing two firearms," says KZN police spokesperson Thenjiswa Ngcobo.
Ngcobo says Gumede was related to the murdered couple.
