Ford SA's recall 'too little too late': Durban Kuga owner
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A KZN resident whose 2014 Ford Kuga 1,6 caught fire a month ago says Ford South Africa should have recalled the car sooner.
Yesterday, Ford SA announced that 39 incidents of cars catching alight - one of which was deadly - have been reported to the company.
The company has decided to issue a voluntary safety recall of the 1.6 Kuga models in order to address engine overheating problems that could cause a fire.
Thirty-six-year-old Niven Sewpersadh from Reservoir Hills says his Kuga started giving him problems from the beginning of December but after taking it to the dealership a number of times, the vehicle was declared fit for the road.
He says after being told the car was fine, he noticed smoke coming out of the engine.
Meanwhile, Consumerwatch's Wendy Knowler says she felt Ford SA avoided a lot of the important questions. She says those looking to sell their Kuga's need to look at the resale value before the problem started.
