Five suspected robbers have been killed in a shootout with police at Fields Hill, near Pinetown west of Durban.

KZN police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbhele says investigators had been following up on information about a gang committing robberies in Pinetown and Kloof when they spotted a suspicious vehicle.
"A vehicle was spotted on the M13 and the police tried to stop the vehicle. The occupants fired shots towards the police. The police retaliated which caused the driver to lose control and the vehicle overturned. Five of the suspects died on the scene and one was injured and has been arrested," she said.
Mbhele says two television sets and cameras were found in the suspects' car.
