Manhunt for suspects in Durban CBD armed robbery
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Police are searching for four robbers who killed a security guard after stealing money from a man in the Durban city centre yesterday.
The guard tried to stop the gunmen and chased them along Dr Yusuf Dadoo Street but was shot and died before emergency personnel arrived to assist him.
The police's Thulani Zwane says the suspects' getaway vehicle was later found abandoned.
He says it was taken during a hijacking in Chatsworth recently.
"The suspects allegedly shot and killed a security guard and fled on foot. A vehicle that was recovered in the vicinity suspected to have been used by the criminals - was a BMW stolen from the Chatsworth area," he says.
