A man and four children have lost their lives in a fire that ripped through a home in Ndwedwe, north of Durban.
eThekwini firefighters say flames engulfed the house in Nthabeni area, where the family ran a small business, a shop from home.
Durban Fire's Jesse Yasudas says they had to break into the well-secured property after neighbours alerted them to people being trapped inside.
"On entering the premises and extinguishing the fire, we started to uncover what was our greatest fear. We uncovered five bodies inside. These five people were adults aged around fifty and children from 13 to 16 years old.

"They were all in one room of the dwelling, reports indicate that this could have been an arson attack," he said.
