Five in KZN court for planning hit
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Five suspects, arrested in Pietermaritzburg for allegedly planning and
carrying out a hit, are due to line up in court soon.
Police say it's alleged that four men were given orders by a 30-year-old suspect to kill a woman whom she suspected was having an affair with her boyfriend.
The KZN SAPS' Robert Netshuinda says the group travelled to Ntabamhlophe in uThukela over the long weekend to carry out the order, but killed the wrong person.
"The report suggests that the suspects shot the mother of the intended victim in a case of mistaken identity. The 63-year-old woman was certified dead at the scene."
The suspects fled the scene and the POP police officers were alerted of the incident and intercepted the vehicle near the Mooi River Toll Plaza.
Netshuinda says they seized a gun from the group.

He says community members who gave chase from Ntabamhlophe identified the vehicle.
"One of the arrested suspects has already been identified as a hitman who has been on the police's list of wanted suspects in connection with murder cases."
The suspect, originally from the Maphumulo area, alternated residences between KwaMashu hostel and Umlazi.
The five suspects are aged between 25 and 32 years.
