KZN businessman killed in shootout with cops at Ballito estate

Two suspects, including a
prominent KZN businessman believed to be behind a massacre at the Richards Bay
CBD, have been shot and killed in a shootout with police in Ballito.

They were part of a group which is thought have been hiding at a residence within a popular luxury estate in the northcast.
National and KZN police launched a manhunt for them after a group of three shot and killed five people at a Richards Bay shopping complex on Tuesday.
KZN SAPS spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says six firearms and over a thousand rounds of live ammunition were found at the Ballito residence where the group was hiding.

“The tactically astute police officers penetrated the residence and before they knew it they found themselves under gun fire from the suspects. Police retaliated and at the end of the shootout, two suspects were found to have sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
“The Independent Police Investigative Directorate were summoned to the scene for further investigations. Police investigations into the matter continues and a search for more possible suspects is ongoing.”
