Five killed in separate KZN accidents as weekend begins
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Three people have lost their lives when two vehicles collided along the R34 in Empangeni this morning while two people have died in another crash involving a truck along the N2 just before the Zinkwazi off-ramp.
Details around the cause of the crash in Empangeni, between an SUV and a truck, are not yet fully known.
KZN EMS' Robert McKenzie says there was nothing that could be done to save the three who had succumbed to their injuries.
"This is one of three truck accidents that have taken place in the province today. One happened on Van Reenan's Pass and there was another crash at Mooi River which involved two trucks and a bus. Motorists are being urged to please be extremely cautious on the roads today as there are wet weather conditions across the province today," he said.

In the accident at Mooi River, Netcare911's Chris Botha says the driver was trapped in the truck upon the arrival of emergency services.
"One vehicle was absolutely ripped apart - the driver who was in a critical condition was trapped in the truck. Paramedics used the Jaws of Life to extricate him. We ask people to take it easy on the roads," he said.
