Five killed in KZN shooting incidents

At least five people have been shot dead in separate incidents in KwaZulu-Natal.

Emergency services have responded to shootings in Verulam, KwaMashu, Isipingo and Pietermaritzburg this morning. 

In Verulam, a 25-year-old man was killed on his way to work at the Oyster Box in Umhlanga. 

Nathaniel Naidoo had been travelling to work with a lift club when their vehicle came under fire in Neptune Drive. 

Naidoo died in hospital. His cousin who had been driving the vehicle was also injured. Oyster Box manager, Wayne Coetzer says staff have been left traumatised. 

Charges of murder and attempted murder are being investigated by Verulam SAPS.

Meanwhile, a man has sustained a fatal gun shot wound at his workplace in Isipingo, south of Durban. Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says the man had already died by the time medics arrived at the scene.

"On arrival, paramedics found a male believed to be in his forties with multiple gunshot wounds. He had sustained major injuries. Unfortunately, there was nothing more paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene," he said.

Police on scene are investigating further.

Gunshots also rang out at a taxi rank in Pietermaritzburg. ER24 says one man was killed. Another person sustained injuries to his leg and was rushed to hospital.

Two suspected hijackers were shot dead in KwaMashu this morning. The suspects were being sought in connection with a fatal hijacking in Avoca in Durban North yesterday evening. Kelly Chetty was shot dead in front of his children.

Police say a third suspect, believed to be injured, is still on the run.
