Five jailed following string of eShowe robberies

Five men have been sentenced to a combined 100 years behind bars for a string of crimes committed in the eShowe area in northern KZN in 2015.

The group's been convicted of a number of counts of aggravated robbery.
On more than one occasion, they pretended to be hitchhikers, flagged down motorists and then robbed them at gunpoint.
They also held up a farmer and two farm workers and burnt them with an iron before robbing them of various valuables.
Police spokesperson, Nqobile Gwala says they were sentenced this week.
"Nkanyezi Regional Court sentenced five men to 15 years. Others were sentenced to 22 years, others to 20 for terrorising the community of eShowe. They committed crimes where they were robbing the community of their belongings as well as their vehicles.

Gwala says after intensive investigations, a team of detectives managed to apprehend all the suspects that were involved.
