Five ‘hijacked’ buildings identified in Durban CBD
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
KZN Human Settlements MEC Sipho Nkosi has promised to clear out government buildings that are being illegally occupied.

The so-called hijacking of buildings has come into sharp focus following the deaths of 77 people in a fire at an inner-city building in Johannesburg.
Nkosi paid an unannounced visit to some buildings being illegally occupied in the Durban CBD on Thursday morning.

He says out of five hijacked properties, they have managed to claim back three.
Nkosi says the provincial government will be working closely with law enforcement to deal with the problem.
"We want to say without any doubt in our minds that those people who invaded the two buildings, we are going to activate processes so that they are taken out of there.
"Because it is illegal for anybody to invade someone's property. This is what we want to indicate, then we hope that we are going to be humanitarian when we deal with the matter."
