It's been hit hard by the restrictions - with one one of the country's fitness chains announcing a temporary lay-off of thousands of staff while cutting salaries by 75%.

Members of the industry held a virtual protest on Wednesday - calling for gyms to be allowed to reopen

As things stand,  it appears fitness businesses will be among the last to open at Level 1.

Fit SA spokesperson Grant Austin says they're confident they'll be able to convince the courts later this month that the industry should get back into action sooner rather than later.

"We are back in court on 19 August. We were in court on 2 July, and we agreed to step back from the case because the legal representation of the government and our Advocate had a meeting of the minds."

"We were supposed to be open under Level 3, so although we didn't want to antagonise government, we have understood that they have a big job ahead of them and they are balancing lives and the economy and jobs, people's health and the pandemic.

"We are doing the same thing, but we are not the problem, we are part of the solution because we help people build their immunes, says Austin.
