First suspect in court for Ladysmith murder
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
A 36-year-old man is due to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate's Court this morning in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a 20-year-old man.
The suspect was nabbed on Tuesday afternoon after the victim's body was pulled from the Klip River.
He had allegedly been attacked by seven people at his home in the Steadville area on Saturday.
They had accused him of stealing a car.
Community members heard the man's cries for help and tried to assist. Police say the assailants then fired shots at the crowd and fled the scene with the victim in tow.
"We are appealing to the community to refrain from taking matters into their own hands. We also appeal to them that they must contact the police if there's information on any other suspect," police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele said.
