First court appearance for mother of Newlands East baby
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A woman accused of dumping her newborn baby into a storm water drain in Newlands East is expected in the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court today.

The baby girl was rescued just over two weeks ago - in a massive operation involving various teams from Durban. The 32-year-old suspect was arrested last Monday at a local hospital.
The woman has been receiving treatment in hospital for postpartum complications.
She was placed under arrest after going to a health facility seeking medical attention.
Her case was in court last Wednesday - but she wasn't in court as she was still recovering after undergoing emergency surgery on the night of her arrest.
The hospital where she was being treated submitted a letter to the court explaining her condition.
