Firearm linking accused number 3 to Meyiwa case ‘stolen at CIT robbery’
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The firearm linking accused number three Mthobisi Mncube, to Senzo Meyiwa’s murder, was stolen during a cash-in-transit heist.

Mncube was arrested in 2015 for possessing an illegal firearm and ammunition, which would later lead to his conviction for the murder of a taxi association chairperson in Alexandra.
At the time of his arrest, police also confiscated a bullet magazine with various calibres of ammunition from his home in Malvern.
The ammunition confiscated from Mncube was subsequently linked to the one found at the Senzo Meyiwa murder scene in October 2014.
On Monday, the High Court in Pretoria heard evidence from Pieter Jacobus Smuts, who works for SBV as a legislative manager.
Smuts told the court that the 9mm parabellum with a serial number of 8587 was stolen at a shopping centre in Rabie Ridge in 2013.
“... It was issued for SBV services. The number of the firearm is 8587. The specific firearm related to what we have mentioned now, and the license was stolen during a cash-in-transit robbery. It was stolen in 2013 in Rabie Ridge in the month of May in which it was reported to the police.”
The case continues.
