A KwaZulu-Natal woman says while there's finally justice for her murdered husband, the pain and trauma is still fresh.

Pamela and Campbell Scott were attacked during a robbery at their farm on the outskirts of Creighton in 2018.

Pamela was tied up during the ordeal.

"My husband was a very kind and gentle man. He wasn't strongly built and he was shot without negotiation. He was shot in cold blood in a dark passage in our home and he was left to lie on the cold floor and I wasn't allowed to see him and be with him as his life slipped away. It was devastating."

On Friday, the Pietermaritzburg High Court handed Bethwell Mthembu and Bhekizizwe Mchunu lengthy sentences, including a life term for the murder and other charges.

Their co-accused, Moses Mthembu, died during the trial.

Pamela says she had been married to Peter for 40 years.

"When a murder happens, criminals don't realise what they are causing, how they are burning apart someone's life. Besides taking my husband's life and taking away his right, there were my children and grandchildren who have been devastated and my daughters-in-law."

She says her husband was well-known and loved in the community and she was overwhelmed by their support.

"The community has enfolded me in their love and concern. They have supported me throughout this period and also my brothers and sisters-in-law have been absolutely wonderful. So I am fortunate, I know that I am blessed and I think this has helped get me through this."

Pamela says while the trial took years to be concluded, she commends the work of the justice system and all its role players who held her hand and guided her through the long journey.
