eThekwini says it saw a record number of holidaymakers flocking to the City over the festive season.

The municipality says more than 880 236 people made their way to Durban - with 3.9 million people visiting the City's beaches.
Speaking at yesterday's Executive Committee meeting, mayor Zandile Gumede said the majority of the visitors to the City were from Gauteng while international tourists were mainly from the UK, Germany, US and France.
Direct spend of R2.3-billion was recorded while the contribution to the City's GDP came in at R3.8-billion. More than 8 000 temporary jobs were also created.

Gumede says the success was the result of a joint effort by eThekwini, other spheres of government and the private sector to ensure Durban was marketed to domestic and foreign markets.
