Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
The driver of the minibus taxi that struck a group of schoolgirls in Newlands West - killing three of them - has been arrested, on three counts of culpable homicide.

The girls were hit by the minibus this morning while on their way to school.
They were dragged several metres. Three died at the scene and a fourth was seriously hurt.
Police say the 33-year-old man will appear in court soon.
Education spokesperson, Kwazi Mthethwa visited the scene. He says the MEC will be visiting the families of the teenage girls.

"We are going to be following the matter. As of now, we are going straight to meet the school. The MEC will later on visit the families of affected learners."
Mthethwa says the safety of learners remains their biggest concern.
"We will continue to work hand in hand with the department of transport in this province to ensure that learners - going to school - are safe," Mthethwa said.
