Family's car crashes in protest-hit Chesterville
Updated | By Newswatch
Emergency responders had to navigate a road littered with rubbish and burning tyres to assist three family members who were hurt in a car crash near Chesterville.

Two cars collided late Monday night on the N2 north, where protesters had taken to the streets, setting fire to debris on both sides of the carriageway.

While it's not yet clear what caused the crash, reports from the scene indicate that the drivers had tried to avoid the demonstration.
Spokesperson for ALS Paramedics Garrith Jamieson says paramedics and Roadstar Towing decided to first move those injured away from the chaos.
"Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the scene still hostile and active with protestors still in the vicinity. A family of a father, mother and child, a seven-year-old boy, had been injured in a collision involving two vehicles."

"Paramedics and towing services decided for their safety as well as the patients' safety. They uplifted the patients and the vehicle was moved to a safer location. The patients were stabilised before they were transported through to a hospital."
