Family of murdered Newcastle couple speak of tension in farming community

Glen and Vida Rafferty's loved ones say their murders have paved the way for difficult conversations over growing tensions in Newcastle's farming community.
The Normandien couple was shot on their property last month.
On Monday, the 29-year-old suspect in the case -Siyabonga Macu - abandoned his bid for bail.
According to media reports, tensions ran high at the Newcastle Magistrate's Court, when groups came out in support of Macu and the Rafferty family.

The couple's daughter-in-law, Tasmyn Rafferty said: "It's a long road still, but I think we're positive. Yes, tensions have been brought up, but I think that is normal.

"I think what's come across from their deaths is the type of people that they were. Just fantastic, really good people and we're grateful that that has been our narrative as well."
