Family disappointed as Newlands driver released on bail
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
A KwaMashu woman says she is shocked by the release of the taxi driver accused of mowing down her niece and two other girls in Newlands East last week on R3000 bail.
Siboniso Zwane launched an application for bail in the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court yesterday, exactly one week since the devastating crash.
He is facing three counts of culpable homicide as well as one count of reckless and negligent driving. The State did not oppose his bail.
Speaking at a memorial for the girls yesterday, Nokuthula Ngiba-Giba, whose niece, Tina was killed, said the family had hoped to see Zwane remain behind bars for the duration of proceedings.

"When I was home the next day, one lady came by my house and asked if he had received bail. We said no, we don't want him to receive bail," said Ngiba-Giba.
Ngiba-Giba says the family has been struggling to come to terms with Tina's death.
"We were feeling very sad when we received the news. We couldn't fall asleep that day - the whole family."
