Ex-G4S employee nabbed for alleged R2 million theft

A former security company employee accused of stealing over R2 million from a company is appearing in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Monday - after more than a year on the run.

It's alleged he committed the theft while working at a G4S Cash Solutions depot in Westville.


Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale says he was arrested on Sunday.


"It is alleged that in December 2019, the suspect stole approximately R2,4 million from the G4S Cash Solutions depot in Westville. A case was opened, which prompted the Hawks' investigation. A warrant for his arrest was issued by court after a thorough probe.

"The suspect is alleged to have built a house from the suspected stolen million and therefore, the Asset Forfeiture Unit will assist with further investigation.  The investigation is continuing."


Also in court are two suspected drug dealers who were nabbed after police uncovered a drug den in Chatsworth.


Mogale says they were busted during a raid on Friday.


They face drug-dealing charges.


"A clandestine operation was conducted by the Hawks' South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) and Crime Intelligence officers on Tammany Avenue in Croftdene, Chatsworth.

"Cocaine powder, crack cocaine, heroin capsules, heroin powder and various drug taking paraphernalia were recovered. Cash suspected to be the proceeds of the drug trade were also seized."
