Is Eugene de Kock on Facebook?

A Facebook account has been opened in the name of apartheid-era killer Eugene de Kock, but its validity can not immediately be confirmed.

de kock

If true, De Kock has a Facebook account with over 1000 friends.

His lawyer Julian Knight has said earlier today that he is not sure if the account belongs to De Kock.

The Facebook profile says De Kock currently lives in Pretoria.

The former Vlakplaas commander nicknamed "prime evil" was granted parole earlier this year, and is reportedly in a safe house under the State Security Agency.

Aside from sharing pictures of a honeybadger, a picture of what appears to be De Kock with grey hair standing in front of the Koevoet memorial in Pretoria, the profile also has shared photos from another user of their family.

He apparently names a man who was once an apartheid hit squad member.

The user who is apparently De Kock comments in Afrikaans: "Mooi foto van [name withheld] daar. Hoop hy het julle almal vertel van die ou bejaarde swart man {oupa} en sy twee kleinkinders, seuntjie en dogtertjie,4jr en 6jr onderskeidelik wat hy en 3 ander vermoor het deur middel van teregstelling en op die Andoni Vlakte begrawe het in Owamboland anderkant die Oshivello hek.Dit was baie baie dapper van hom.!!!!!"

This translates to: "Nice picture of [name withheld ] there. Hope he told everyone about the elderly black man [grandfather] and his two grandchildren, [a] boy and girl, 4 years and 6 years respectively that he and 3 others killed through execution and buried in the Andoni Flats in Owamboland [Namibia], on the other side of the Oshivelo gate. It was very very brave of him!!!!!"

This post was taken off by 10am today.

One user, Gerhard Tjoep de Beer said in Afrikaans: "Yes, [this]...makes a bunch of anxious monkeys... jump because they don't know when their names will be named."

Another called Christine de Klerk said "Colonel Gene" had already paid for other people's sins.

On the other posts users commented in Afrikaans, "You are looking cool brother", and  "You remain my hero, friend".

The Star reports that after it asked the department of correctional services about the page, it was removed 10 minutes later.  That profile name was "Alxndredk de Kock".

A profile with the full name "Eugene Alexander de Kock" was up later.
