eThekwini working to keep Blue Flag status

eThekwini says it will up its efforts in the coming weeks to keep the status of our Blue Flag beaches.

The municipality has been fielding complaints over the cleanliness of some city beaches - especially after public holidays and long weekends.
The new beach rating season comes into play in November. KZN currently has nine Blue Flag beaches - including two in eThekwini.

Parks and Recreation's Thembinkosi Ngcobo says they'll be pulling out all the stops to ensure the municipality does not lose Blue Flags.
"We have employed part-time staff who are going to be assisting permanent staff to clean the beaches as much as possible and maintain them to the high standards that we have - that will include our open spaces, and ablution facilities," Ngcobo said.
