eThekwini will continue to healthcare provision ‘for all’
Updated | By Andile Tsotetsi
eThekwini Municipality has moved to clarify the confusion over ID requirements at local clinics.

It follows a social media post showing a notice at a clinic requesting patients to bring their ID's when visiting the clinic.
The notice has caused some consternation, with some accusing the city of backing the exclusion of foreign nationals from healthcare facilities.
The confusion comes amid an ongoing campaign to exclude undocumented migrants from using state healthcare facilities.

Last week, the March and March organisation protested outside several KZN health facilities, claiming foreign nationals are being given access to healthcare at the expense of South Africans' right to it.
The city has clarified that no one will be turned away for not having an ID document.
It says patients are only asked to bring their IDs during their first visit to open a patient file.
After that, an ID is not required for future clinic visits.
eThekwini says it remains committed to accessible healthcare for all and urges residents to keep using its 59 clinics.
