eThekwini wants task team to probe officers' murder
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
eThekwini deputy mayor, Fawzia Peer wants a police task team to investigate the murder of two Durban Metro Police officers in the Bhambayi area near Phoenix last night.
Peer says she plans to approach Police Minister, Bheki Cele for assistance.
The officers, a man and a woman, had been stationed outside ANC Ward 52 councillor, Sthe Zulu's home when they were allegedly approached by two men who demanded their service firearms.
They both sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Peer is calling on authorities to double their efforts in hunting down the suspects.
"We want to know from SAPS what the motive for the killing is. One could say it was a crime, because all they did was take a firearm and kill them. Was it for the councillor or was it just a simple crime? These are some of the questions intelligence has to work on."

Peer says authorities are treating this as a serious incident.
"We are taking this seriously as the City. I lost two police officers," Peer said.
