eThekwini says local tourism on road to recovery

Sporting events hosted in Durban this past weekend have boosted municipal coffers by more than R50 million.
The city hosted local and international tourists who flew into the country for the COSAFA beach soccer championship and the Ironman 70.3 event.
The municipality says the total direct spend was around R2.2 million with over 2 000 jobs created.

eThekwini's Msawakhe Mayisela says sporting events play a major role in boosting Durban's economy.
"In our recent weekend, our hotels were fully occupied which was a clear demonstration that our efforts to reignite tourism are paying dividends.
"We are appealing to our residents to continue to be hospitable so that our city continues to be a tourists mecca. As we are heading towards the festive season, we are expecting close to one million visitors that going to choose eThekwini to be their home away from home."
