Updated | By Sandile Bhengu
eThekwini has re-opened some of its beaches following an improvement in water quality.

The city says the water from the beaches has been tested by a team of experts and is now at an acceptable standard.
Beaches that are now open for swimming are Bay of Plenty Beach, North Beach, Wedge Beach and Ushaka Beach.
In the south, Umgababa, Umkomaas, Brighton, and Treasure beaches remain open.

The municipality’s spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela says other beaches will remain closed until further notice.
"We sincerely apologise to the members of the public for the inconvenience that the closure of some of the beaches is causing, but we are appealing to the public to continue to bare with us as we are doing everything in our power to ensure that eventually all beaches are opened soon.
"We will continue to monitor the quality of water and we will inform the member of the public of those tests."
