eThekwini moves to buy Transnet building used by flood victims
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
eThekwini has begun negotiations with Transnet to repurchase
a building that was being used by Durban's flood victims.
"There's been an engagement with Transnet as the owner of the building, with the minister of human settlements and the province and ourselves as a city,”
Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda says.
Talks began after families were kicked out of the Montclair building, south of Durban, last week.

They had occupied the lodge illegally following an outcry over living conditions and overcrowding in shelters provided by the municipality after the disastrous rains in April.
Kaunda says they've asked Transnet to allow the families to return to the building for now.
"The minister of human settlement will be looking at the matter maybe to assist us as a municipality to bring the building back to us from Transnet, instead of it being sold to private developers."
