eThekwini metro police vow increased visibility during EFF national shutdown
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The eThekwini metro
police says there will be increased police visibility on the city's roads
during next week's planned national shutdown.
Monday's protest has been organised by the EFF as part of calls for an end to load shedding.
The red berets will also use the day to call for the resignation of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Metro police spokesperson Boysie Zungu says there are no laws that guide a national shutdown because it's not a strike or a march.
"Total shutdown is like a stay-away from home but as police, we have planned increased visibility because if they decide to stay at home, it's their right but they mustn't disturb other people.

“If children want to go to school they must go, we are going to be there to make sure they are protected and public transport is protected. Again, if those who want to stay at home, they can and if they want to go to work, the police will be there. We are going to bring more police officers to ensure all places are covered."
