Ethekwini investigates refuse truck bombing

The eThekwini Local Municipality has called on Umlazi residents to speak out against criminal elements.

This comes after a refuse truck was petrol bombed  the twonship's K-section while doing rounds this week. It's alleged two suspects had been chatting to the driver when a petrol bomb was thrown.


 The City had recently hired 12 private trucks to clear refuse collection backlog from Monday last week.

Spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela says the recent accident will not deter the City's decision to insource services. 


 "All we are asking is for the members of the public who may information to please come forward and assist the police," says Mayisela. 

 

He says, "It's a serious concern and we sincerely apologize to our residents who may be bearing the brunt of such a truck being burnt but we are trying our level best to ensure that we fast track the process of clearing the backlog in that part of the city".
