Driver hurt after municipal rubbish collection truck petrol bombed in Umlazi

A case of arson is being investigated after a municipal refuse truck was petrol bombed in Umlazi, south of Durban.

According to Durban Metro Police, the vehicle was torched at the corner of Mabele and Sigonyella Roads in K-section on Monday.

The City recently rented 12 private trucks to clear all refuse backlogs from Monday last week.
Metro police spokesperson, Parboo Sewpersadh says they understand that two suspects approached the driver first.
"While they ere talking to the driver of the vehicle somebody through a petrol bomb and ran away."
"A case of arson has been opened, the driver sustained minor burns and was taken to a local hospital. The suspects are still at large," he said.
The City's condemned the torching of waste trucks.
