eThekwini deploys 30 teams to fix city’s street lights

eThekwini says some 30 teams are working on fixing Durban's faulty or broken street lights.

They've just wrapped up repairs in the CBD.

 

They're now tackling those on the N3, M4, Umgeni Road and the M19 before fanning out across the municipality's residential areas.

 

Head of Electricity Maxwell Mthembu says it's a two-week project.

 

"The City has been doing it for quite a long time but now of late, we are focusing on top of the coronation that coming soon. We are just checking here and there, we are no longer in town, we're done with town. We are now looking around the townships, including Umlazi, Kwamashu and Inanda all the big ones. So we look at those roads coming into the CBD.”

He has reminded residents to report vandals immediately.

 

On Wednesday a photo was taken of a man seen perched on the top of a light pole on Isipingo's Prospection Road.

 

"The stuff that has been stolen and taken out is costing us between R2000 and R4000. People are just taking pictures and standing there instead of reporting the matter so we can stop the vandals.
