eThekwini to deploy 'smart tech' to fight crime

 In a boost for Durban's crime fighting teams. eThekwini Metro police say they're moving forward with plans to procure new and smart technology for the men and women in blue.

Acting Regional Commander Parboo Sewpersad says the city has tabled the implementation of the smart police strategy.

 

"We have tested a few tools already and these are the body cams, tazers, the dash cams and the personal device assistance. All these devices will be integrated into the fusion centre or the control in metro police."

 

He says all vehicles will be fitted with geo-location tracking devices.

The project leader says the goal for the rollout of SPS is to improve law enforcement and reduce criminal activities.

 

 "I can safely say that these devices if used in the correct manner will be able to curb crime within the city, besides curbing crime there will also be an app for people leaving in Durban and surrounding areas."
