Friday's meeting at the Durban ICC was called following the collapse of last week's sitting after some ANC and EFF councillors were a no-show.

The previous deputy mayor, the ABC's Philani Mavundla, was ousted through a no-confidence vote in December.

At the gathering, council speaker Thabani Nyawose was also asked about the no-confidence motion in Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda that's being brought by the Active Citizens Coalition.

It's accusing the mayor of failing to prioritise service delivery.

"There was no speaker's meeting since the last meeting and there was a motion that was put which was deferred to the special meeting regarding a motion of no confidence against the mayor.

"I want to know whether there is a supplementary agenda because I am going to this. I don't find it here and as far as I am concerned in term of the rules, that item was supposed to laid on this special meeting.

"So speaker if you could please elaborate because that item is not here, maybe by mistake, an error on the part of the [secretary]. It should be laid on the table."

Nyawose said he'll only be able to respond to the question later.

Earlier this week, it was agreed in council that the motion against Kaunda will be debated during full physical sitting.
