Eskom warns of possible stage 6 load shedding
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
A warning for possible stage 6 load shedding on Tuesday evening has been issued by Eskom.
The power producer says there is a high risk of the country being thrust into stage 6 blackouts from the peak consumption period of 5pm.
During a media briefing on Tuesday morning, Eskom's CEO Andre de Ruyter said this is due to significant generation loss of 10 units overnight.
"We have 3 218 megawatts on planned outages, we have full load losses of 8 582, partial losses of 5 622, which gives us a total of unplanned load losses of 14 204."

"However, we have associated losses mainly due to unavailability of coal and labour."
Chief Operations Officer Jan Oberholzer says quite a few units are down.
"One of our flagship power stations in terms of capacity, we lost three units overnight. Tutuka power station also three units, Kriel we have one unit, Kusile one unit. At Kendal, another unit and last at Duval as well.
"To date, two units have returned. So of the ten, only two units have returned successfully."
