Eskom warns municipalities to comply with load shedding schedules
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Some municipalities aren't complying with load shedding requirements, adding more fuel to the current electricity crisis.
That's according to Eskom CEO, Andre De Ruyter, who's explained why the country was plunged into load shedding stage 4 this week.
He said one of the reasons is that there'd been non-compliance by some municipalities during stage 2.
This put more pressure on Eskom as it tried to recoup some 2 000 megawatts of power.
"A recent new challenge that has reared its head, is that some municipalities have not played their role in implementing load shedding and during stage 2 load shedding we saw a number of municipalities either not abiding by their obligations to implement load shedding or implementing it only on a fractional basis of what their commitment should be.”
Eskom's management team held a virtual press briefing on Tuesday to discuss the country's ongoing electricity crisis.
We moved to stage 3 of the power cuts at 5am on Wednesday.
