Eskom pumps up load shedding to stage 6
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Eskom has announced that stage 6 load shedding will start at 4pm on Tuesday.
The power utility’s spokesperson Sikhonathi Mantshantsha says it will continue until 10pm.
After that, it goes back to stage 4 until midnight.
"Load shedding will then be reduced to stage 2 until 05:00 on Wednesday morning. From 05:00 until 16:00 on Wednesday, load shedding will be implemented at stage 4,” Mantshantsha says.
"Load shedding stage 6 will then again be implemented at 16:00 and 22:00 tomorrow evening."
Mantshantsha says the change is as a result of the ongoing worker strike at its plants.

He warns there is still a risk of more adjustments depending on the state of the plants.
"Three of the 10 generation units that had tripped during the night have been returned to service. This, however, is still insufficient to stave off the implementation of stage 6 load shedding for this evening and tomorrow evening.
"We currently have 3 218MW on planned maintenance, while another 17 621MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.”
