Eskom KZN warns of load reduction in overloaded areas
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Eskom in KZN has resumed load reduction across the province in areas prone to network overloading when load shedding is suspended.

It says this is done to protect the network and mitigate the damage to the electricity infrastructure.
The power producer says illegal connections have caused strain on its infrastructure, leading to the explosion of transformers and mini-substations.

Operations manager Harish Raghnandan says their equipment is designed to cater to the specific number of customers they know.
"Audits are one of the ways in which we can try and reduce the impact of the load reduction because if we do the audits and we have an understanding of what the actual customer data is. Will probably re-look at the equipment rating and we'll have to change the size of the equipment that's feeding our customers.
"The audits are a way of trying to regulate what we know and be able to predict it and be able to put the correct equipment."
