Eskom: Communities need to be educated about electricity safety

Eskom says communities need to be educated time and time again on the dangers of illegal electricity connections and hazards.
An 11-year-old boy who was swimming in the Umbilo Canal last week lost his life.
Kyle O'Reilly was electrocuted when he stepped on a live wire underwater.

Eskom's Ronald Chonco says while the number of deaths has dropped from 12 to six since 2018, more people need to be taught about electricity safety.
"Communities must be encouraged to play a role in saving their own lives by sharing information on the dangers associated with the unsafe use of electricity."
"It is a means of empowering people with the know-how of using this energy source with care," he says.
