Eskom and Estina Dairy Farm to be probed at State Capture commission

Eskom's tender contracts and the controversial Estina Dairy Farm project are set to come under the spotlight at the State Capture Commission of Inquiry.

Treasury’s Chief Procurement Officer, William Mathebula is expected to be the first witness to give evidence.  

He is set to explain government's procurement process and weigh in on the Estina scandal where at least R200-million worth of State funds were allegedly looted by Gupta associates and officials from the department of agriculture in the Free State.

The eight accused are due to appear in a Bloemfontuin court today.  

Commission advocate, Thandi Norman says a forensic report into the project will be submitted as evidence and investigations will continue.

The hearings kicked off in Johannesburg yesterday with Deputy Chief Justice, Raymond Zondo highlighting some of the challenges they have faced so far.  

He said inquiry staff who needed clearance to handle top secret material have not received security clearance from the country's spy agency, the State Security Agency.
