Energy expert warns of further Eskom price hikes
Updated | By Xolani Khumalo
An energy expert is warning consumers to brace themselves for more possible increases in the cost of lights.
Chris Yelland says this is due to steps being taken by Eskom to claw back some R59 billion from customers.
The utility's been locked in a legal battle with the National Energy Regulator of South Africa, which reached an agreement last year to add R10 billion to Eskom's allowable revenue.

The energy regulator announced on Thursday that it's granting the cash-strapped utility permission to raise tariffs by 9.61% from April.
"It is a matter of R59 billion that Eskom wants to claw back through the tariffs that is not being taken into account."
The matter is before the appeal court at the moment, so whilst the price increases 10 per cent at the moment, it is likely to go up, but of course, it depends on the outcome of the appeal."
