Empangeni 'mall robbers' death toll climbs to 6

Another suspect involved in a robbery that led to a shootout with police on the N2 in Durban on Wednesday has died.
This brings the death toll to six.
It's understood a gang of eight robbed a clothing outlet in Empangeni in northern KZN in the morning.
They fled in two vehicles and private security officers gave chase.

The officials called for backup.
Police officers and other security personnel made their way to Tongaat Toll Plaza, where they waited for the suspects.
A high-speed chase ensued, with both suspects and officers opening fire.
Both cars crashed in two locations between the Tongaat Toll Plaza and the King Shaka International Airport.

Five of the suspects were declared dead on scene, while two were taken to hospital and another arrested.
KZN police spokesperson Jay Naicker says one of the suspects taken to hospital died on Thursday.
