Emergency services’ hands full amid KZN rainstorm

Emergency services say they have responded to several instances of localised flooding at informal settlements in Durban.

They have also had their hands full with road crashes amid the wet weather.

Netcare 911's Shawn Herbst says some happened on the N2 and N3.

"The road was very slippery. We have had one to two truck collisions, but fortunately, there haven't been any injuries."

"All we can do is use some common sense when you are driving, switch your headlights on, increase your following distance and wear your seat belt and slow your speed down."

Herbst says they've redeployed some of the vehicles to Pinetown, in the lower parts of the province, Margate and in the North, around Richards Bay, Mthunzini.

"We are monitoring where we do find situations where there is no flash flooding, or there is an increase in motor vehicle collisions, we are redeploying in those areas. We are expecting the rain to continue if you look at reports for the South African Weather Service."

Meanwhile, the weather service says no alerts have been issued for KZN on Tuesday.

Forecaster Odirile Nodipa says scattered showers and thundershowers are expected over the southern and western parts of the province on Tuesday.

Only isolated showers are expected in the northern parts.

Nodipa says the same condition are expected during the weekend.

"On Friday, we have got some scattered showers as well, otherwise isolated in the north-east."
